Brunswick moves ball production to Mexico !!!

Postby Countyboy1477 » Thu Feb 08, 2007 10:25 pm

Is anyone else as perplexed by this move as I? Once again, it seems as if the bottom line wins out over American manufacturing. Now Brunswick is moving it's ball making facilities south of the border to save money in an " ever increasing difficult market". I realize that money indeed makes the world go 'round, but is it in the best interests of bowlers to move the facility to mexico and hope that their products and standards are the same? As a member of the United Steelworkers of America, I feel that this move will benefit no-one but the company, and hope and pray that all those who use brunswick products will be getting the same quality and performance out of their products, but i highly doubt it. i feel sorry for the workers that this move affects, and find that in the future, i will NOT be buying Brunswick products any more !!! I would like to hear what others think of this situation.

 Brunswick is on it's way out anyway. They have really fallen behind the competition.
However their main focus now is probably going to be international ball sales as once a dominant force in bowling they are floundering like a wounded fish today. After purchasing my last 2 pieces of equipment from brunswick I can see why they are losing market share. Plus competing globally with other mfgrs. is not viable when these other countries have really cheap labor. Ebonite is emerging as the new bowling mammoth.
When you put out product like brunswick is puting out, they might as well move to antarctica.

made outside the USA

I have sympathy to the people who have lost their jobs due to the relocation of those jobs to Mexico. However you should remember that the game of bowling is played on at least 160 countries. I know bowling balls are made in the USA, China, Japan, and now Mexico, there may be other countries where they are made but there are not many more.

The point is that the US manufacturers have been suppying bowling balls to most of the world for a very long time and you never heard the rest of the world crying that they would not buy a ball because of this monopoly situation.

If the game is to grow and become even more international than at present, that would also mean the manufacturing of equipment is going to spread outside the US.

You are certainly not doing the international bowling community any service by not recognising the right of anyone anywhere to make equipment.

Outsourcing seems to be the wave of the present. I haven't tried any equipment made in Mexico yet. So I can't make a firsthand comment on it. Quality in the manufacturing, or lack of quality would be key.

However I would ask this question. Who's using a computer made in the USA anymore?

brunswick moves production to mexico

ladies and gentlemen,
please forgive me if this came across as a union vs. non union rant. that wasn't meant to be the case at all. Nor was it to be a knock at international vs. domestic releases. my point was that hopefully, brunswick products would live up to the same standards as they used to be. For a long time, brunswick was always the product that was first out of the bag. i always knew that i could count on their reliability as well as the reaction for which they were intended. Now i am just not sure that will be the case.
I since, have been turned on to ebonite products by my father, who has bowled exclusively with their products for many, many years. he has nothing but praise for their products as now do i. that is also why i posted the total NV thread, as I am looking for some more input as to what kind of ball this is. thank you again for all your help !!!!!
