Improving Your Long Oil Game

Bowling on long oil can be very challenging to many bowlers. In some cases, this is caused by preconceived notions of what bowling on long oil looks like. Here are some tips to help improve your play on these conditions:
- Use layouts that help create back end movement, along with sanded coverstocks that help create traction. This balances the need for hook with the need for some angle at the back end to carry.
- Use lower speeds when necessary on lower friction lanes such as newer synthetics, and more rotation on higher friction lanes like wood.
- If you want to start in the track, spend time in practice throwing balls outside that area to create a bit of forgiveness right away. You might find more room outside than you would expect.
