Have you set bowling goals for 2021? If so, the odds are good that most of your goals are outcome-related, such as achieving a certain average or winning a tournament. While these are important goals to set, bowlers need another type of goal to help them on their journey.
Performance goals are also called process goals because they focus on the steps you need to take in order to achieve a certain outcome. For example, improving your spare shooting is a performance goal. To be effective, performance goals should be precise, such as, “Improve single pin conversion percentage to a 90% success rate.”
When setting goals, start with your desired outcomes (i.e. winning a tournament) and then ask yourself, “How?” as many times as necessary to find the main performance goals you can use as benchmarks on your journey to success.
