Transition is the specific combination of oil carrydown and oil breakdown. How much you see, and where it happens on the lane, is different every time we bowl, but here are things to look for to help you “see” the lane oil moving around:
- Good shots where the ball grabs early and misses the breakpoint to the inside or rolls out early are an indication of breakdown in the heads.
- Balls that seem to hook, then slide, then hook again are a good indication of breakdown and plenty of carrydown.
- When duller balls have not rolled by the time they get to the pocket, there is probably more carrydown than breakdown.
