Whether you want to permanently increase your ball speed or you simply want the option of using a higher speed to adapt to drier conditions, many bowlers have found themselves with a need for speed.

While most coaches will correctly point to a higher backswing and/or faster feet to create more ball speed, there are a few other details that can help a bowler on their journey to achieving this goal. Here are some small tricks you can use to help you increase your speed:

  • Check your grip: Reducing your grip pressure will loosen up your swing and allow for more potential speed.
  • Lean forward: Shifting your center of gravity forward will get your feet going faster, which is a key element of generating more ball speed.
  • Slide more: Creating a longer slide can allow for better transfer of energy to the ball, resulting in more speed.
