Medium-length sport patterns have the most possible variety in them, due to a less defined initial strategy compared to longer or shorter patterns. But bowlers don’t just need to react to what’s out there. Here are a few tips to help with your game plan:

  • Straighter is greater: Start with smoother, less aggressive balls to control the breakpoint on the fresh.
  • Forget the house shot: On the fresh, the more you move inside, the more hook you tend to find, not less. If you’re going high, move farther outside. When going light, go farther inside.
  • Manage transition: Stick to smoother shapes as long as possible to keep transition easier to see and manage. Weak pocket hits are better than splits through the nose.
