Manipulating your loft can be challenging. Whether you’re trying to permanently adjust the amount of your loft or develop the skill to change it on demand for different conditions, the same basic principles apply.
Loft is how far onto the lane the ball is projected before it lands. It is affected both by the height of the release point and by when the ball is released in the swing:
- Adjusting the height of the release is a matter of changing the release position by modifying how much knee and hip bend you use. Standing taller will result in more loft.
- The point at which the ball is released in the swing will depend on the quality of the fit, so check that first. Work to release the ball in the flat spot of the swing to reduce loft, and practice releasing slightly on the upswing to increase it.
